A pair of vintage Sanborns Mexico sterling covered butter servers (one with replaced but old bowl - see below), with classic lion-head and paw gadroon feet, and lovely ornate details throughout. Great for posh entertaining or catering! With glass inserts to go over crushed ice in the bottom.
Resh from a mid-century Mexican estate see below. There is an old but good (pre-1977) repair on one server - see last 2 photos - the frame, lid and feet are original but the bottom bowl, some of the rim, and the fancy "studs" on either side of the lion heads have been replaced - the bowl is Rogers - these new parts are not sterling. It is a thoughtful repair. The glass inserts both fit but don't match, so one or both are not original, but are still old. The unrepaired lid has a tiny gap when closed, and the one that goes on the repaired server can come loose, just needs some tightening. The unrepaired server ONLY, minus the glass, is 14oz/396g of sterling. 4.5 (11.5cm) tall. Weight is approximate but should be close - weighed on standard home postal scale. Marked with Sanborns logo, "Sterling/Mexico/925/hand-numbered 3240". This collection has been in safety deposit boxes SINCE 1977! It belonged to a wealthy woman who lived part of the time in Mexico City. I will have many items listed from this estate, so please check out my other items.
