Rare PAIR VINTAGE Silver Collar DECANTERS - C J Vander - 15 Marchioness pattern. SAPPHIRE BLUE CASED CUT TO CLEAR. This listing is for a lovely pair of superb decanters. They are both in very good condition with no chips...Slight loss of sapphire glass here and there... Although the decanters have been made by the same company there are slight variation in the engraved pattern... One has a few more scrolls and embellishments in the floral band than the other. The other cutting is bands of hobnail and bands of elongated thumbprints and vertical slash cuts. A veritable feast for the eyes. A showstopper of superb eye pleasing magnificence..... Both of the stoppers are original for their decanter. One is marked 6 which matched the base no. These decanters come in several colours... I have several others silver topped which I will be listing soon.....
This pale sapphire blue is very attractive. Please see another of my listings for 6 sherry glasses in the same blue with similar engraved pattern. The company EBELING & REUSS seem to import the glassware from Germany and C. VANDER provide the silver work for them. I found this on google.
Ebeling and Reuss was an importer of high quality giftware and distributor to the North American market. The firm operated from Philadelphia around 1886 and later relocated to Devon, Pennsylvania where it was still active until the late 1990s. Ebeling and Reuss was a major supplier of porcelain figurines to shops in North Eastern United States. It imported a wide variety of goods, including many animal figures. The company's import volume peaked in the late 1940s/50s with George Ebeling being a long time manager of the firm in the middle of the 20th Century.
A number of pieces were produced under the company name of Erphila, an acronym for Ebeling and Reuss, Philadelphia(E+R+Phila). The firm imported its wares from many factories, including German firms of Fuerstenberg Porcelain from Fuerstenberg, Goebel Porcelain from Redental, Heinrich and Company from Selb, and Carl Schumann Porcelain from Bavaria. It also imported goods from Ditmar-Urbach in Teplitz, Czechoslovakia and Wien Keramos of Austria.E and R did not manufacture their goods and figurines, rather they commissioned and imported them. One of the decanters has the date year Birmingham D is 1978 and the other is a London mark letter g for 1962. Vintage Condition - Excellent with no chips.
