Vintage Pair of hallmarked Sterling Silver Candlesticks (12.5cm tall) 1958

  

Pair of Vintage Sterling Silver Candlesticks. These candlesticks are made from sterling silver although, as is quite common, the stems and bases have been filled to provide support. They are of baluster form with fixed hexagonal sconces (taking candles up to 1.8cm or ¾ in diameter) and hexagonal faceting to the stems and bases.

The bases have been covered with a leatherette material but most of this has worn away exposing the plaster beneath. Both sticks are hallmarked for Birmingham 1958 with the makers mark of Adie Brothers. These sticks look beautiful and are fully usable. To one, there are no dents and it stands nice and vertical. The only things to mention on this one are a light scratch to one of the stems facets and some small dinks around the edges of the foot.

Unfortunately, the other stick has suffered some damage. It appears that someone has tried to push a candle in with some force and this has caused the silver to crease where the stem meets the foot and resulted in the plaster filling being slightly exposed at the edge of 4 facets of the foot. This trauma has also resulted in a very slight tilt to the sconce cup which can be seen from 2 angles. However, it doesnt make the candle lean and is barely noticeable unless standing right alongside the other stick.

In addition, there is a small bruise to the top of the foot and some dinks around the edges. As mentioned above, the covering on both bases has worn considerably. All aspects are shown in the photos below and reflected in the asking price for what is still a beautiful and functional pair of candlesticks.
