Antique Vintage Pair Set Chinese Export Carved Cinnabar Lacquer Moth Dress Clips

  
Matched pair or set of antique Chinese dress clips. Set of 2 matching moths. Expertly carved with the very fine details. Symbolic spiritual and meaningful creature in Eastern culture religions - it is widely believed that moths represent the souls of loved ones that have been lost or that deceased relatives actually take the form of a moth after passing. Moths are synonymous with celebrating Qingming Festival for the above. Six prongs hold each work of art onto custom shaped clip backs. I believe these are carved from true cinnabar - it is warm to the touch and has a unique soft rubbery feel. I don't have any way to date these for certain - possibly early 1900's Chinese export pieces - or maybe even earlier would be my best guess. Don't care for dress clips - but adore these precious moths? Clip on a necklace or cord, convert to two rings / brooch set, or earrings... They are beautiful pieces begging to be admired and shown off. Ready and waiting for your wardrobe. Measurements : Each is aprox 1" long or tall x 2" wide or across - about 3/8 thick. Marks : CHINA in a reversed print stamped on the back edge frame of each. Condition : Great vintage condition - no damage or quirks to mention. Clips in good working order and hold well.
