This is a beautiful pair of vintage, or possibly antique, silver-plated covered dishes from Jays, 142-144 Oxford Street in London, England. Decorated with leaves, shells, scrolled gadrooned silverwork. Finials/ top handles seem loose, turn some, and'wiggle'. The intricate design and Victorian style make them particularly stunning - you just get more detail and workmanship on these. Then you see with many other covered dishes for sale.

There is information about James Jay and Jay Richard Attenborough Co. Please do your own research to date these items. Dishes have maker's mark for James Jay from England. Dishes marked Warranted Hard Soldered, which would indicate these are silver plated. A1 - a producer defined quality mark. Expect scratches, marks, wear - but see photos - generally very nice considering age and use. Finial handles seem loose and turn some and wiggle. You may want to polish - I have given them a light polish only.

James Jay was active since 1867 at 366 Essex Road. In 1897 the firm became James Jay Ltd and in 1904 Jay, Richard Attenborough & Co Ltd.

The business was closed after 1950.
