In 1948 through the early 1980's, the Mexican Goverment seeing the growth of the Mexican Sterling Silver Jewelry Trade stepped in and set guidelines which all designers had to adhere to. There was some concern prior to this as some designers were not using 925 Grade Sterling Silver but were claiming the pieces were made with 925 and other actions like this which could damage the creditability of all Mexican Jewelry Designers. All Silversmiths regardless how long they worked they trade prior to 1948 and new designers had to meet and pass the criteria set by the Mexican Govt (being tested on knowledge, present pieces of jewelry for review etc). All 12 pairs of Taxco Earrings were made in the 1948 to early 1980's time frame. Even the Hallmarking System was Goverment regulated during the time period. The Grade of Sterling must be part of the hallmark, 925 out of 1000 is the standard Sterling Grade. Depending on where the Designer worked the first letter of the Hallmark would indicate the Mexican location. Ie T means the piece was made in Taxco, starting with M would mean Mexico City etc. The 2nd Letter is the first initial of the Designers last name, if I created a piece in Taxco Mexico (after meeting all requirements) then the first 2 parts of my hallmark would be T (Taxco) F my last name is Foster which starts with the letter F.

After this combo there is a hyphen followed by 2 or 3 numbers, back to my example, say I was the 30th designer with the last name starting with the letter F so my hallmark would read Mexico, 925 and the National Registered Designer Hallmark would be TF-30. Two of the earrings have low numbers which indicates they were made in the late 1940's. Every Earring is pierced so I will not write that word, but I will write Stud Back Hook etc.

Starting with Photo 2 I will use Photos 2 to 5 as the Key. Photo 6 shows most of the earrings backs. 1 Stud Heart Earrings with Brass accent on the Rope border, TN-150 Mexico 925. The Earrings are 1" Longest point and Widest Point is 15/16".

2 Long Oval Hoops, the Brass piece on the top has the Stud back, you have the option of taking off the Brass piece and say if you own Diamond Studs, put the pair through the small hole the pair was made so that you can alternate the upper part with your own earrngs. HM is Mexico 925 TB-181, the Earrings are 2" Long and the Widest Point is 1 1/8".

3 Largest Pair, Looks like Native American but they were made by TV-103 Mexico 925. There is Great Detailing on this Stud Back Pair both on the Circle and Feathers which are not showing up as strongly as they are in person. Earrings Longest Point 2 7/8" Long the Round Disk has a Diameter of 1.25". 4 Plain Half Hoops So heavy that the Stud Back had a hinged clasp to stabalize the pair.

This Pair of Earrings are Hallmarked in Cursive which has an overlap of 2 of the stamps so I cannot make out the hallmark but I know the previous owner very well and she was the one that told me the hallmark is a Taxco Reg Mark. The Pair are Curved (intentionally) the length seen in the Photo only is 1 long and. 5 Stud Circle Onyx, Mexico 925 TG-23 (Early 1950's mark) Diameter 7/8.

6 Very Early Grapes Stud, HM is TV-06, Mexico 925. This pair is a highly detailed pair of earrings all of the leaves have great detail and Sterling Silver was laid over the original cut back of the earrngs to give Leaves and Grapes a 3-D Like Appearance. Another Late 1940's early 1950's pair Small Stud Raised Circle HM is TG-12, Mexico, 925.

The Earrings have a 5/8" Center measurement and the are about 5/16" High at the center. Stamped SW Pattern Stud Half Hoops. There is only fragments of the Hallmark which has so little left of it I cannot make out a single letter or Number. From the Earlobe they will hang.

75 Long and the Earrings are. Larger Raised Stud Circle: this has an additional hallmark which some of the more famouse designers used in conjunction with the National Registered Mark or some of the long established Dealers Stores had hallmarks. The Hallmark is TR-131 Mexico 925 and the additional mark is JHZ. The Earrings are 15/16" in the middle and they are 3/8" Deep at center.

10 Very Old Pair, Back Row Looks Like letter K Stud Backs with Brass accented rope design accent. Highest Point is 1.25" Widest Point (Bottom) is 1". 11 Stud Back Square with 3 Hoops, (One is Brass accented). TV-125 Mexico 925, 1.5 Longest part, the Diameter of each of the Hoops are.

12 Circle Hook Back with Black Tribal Design. TH-254, the Earrings will hang from Ear Lobe 1.75" the Diameter of the Circle is 1", I believe the Black used to create the design is not a stone, I think it may be a Black Enamel Paint.

There is No Damage, Cracked, Chipped or Missing Stones, each pair of Earrings although Vintage remain in Mint Condition. A super set of jewelry.

PLEASE NOTE: I do not have all of the Stud Backs for some of the Stud Backed Earrings. The Lot of 12 Pairs of Earrings Weighs 155.00 Grams Exactly. PLEASE NO QUESTIONS:All Hallmarks were verified via The Little Book of Mexican Silver Jewelry which has all of the information on the National Registered Mexican Jewelry Designers. This is the Best I can do with the Photographs. Each item has an individual write up so please if you have any questions on a specific piece of jewelry Please Read the Details which took me hours to research and longer to type.
