This is an exceptionally rare "transition" set with the clear lead wire jacket instead of the typical opaque grey. This is factory original and only seen on the very latest Standard and very earliest HFS & Vintage Bass sets. Shortly after introduction, in the early 1990s, PRS switched to the unplated brass baseplates (with the PRS USA embossing) and began assembling pickups using the cloth style bobbin tape. Have 3-wire shielded leads for 5-way rotary or blade switching, but can also be used on traditional 3-way switch (see diagram).
Leads were desoldered and not cut when removed for easy reinstallation. Measure 14.78K bridge and 8.38K neck at 77F. Incredible condition considering they are now 30 years old. These pickups are the classic'90s PRS sound. The item "1989 Paul Reed Smith HFS and Vintage Bass Pickups Set Pair Silver Baseplates" is in sale since Sunday, February 28, 2021.
